Julie cleared her throat and broke the spell. “I think that’s enough for one day.”

“Tease,” I softly chided. “When will I hear more?”

“I don’t know. I have some more editing to do. The next chapter has to be perfect.” She hesitated for a moment. “Cameron, am I coming to Toronto or are you coming to San Diego?”

“I’ll be in San Diego in one month.”

“How long are you in town?”

“Two days, but I could make it four with the weekend.”

“You should make it four. I’d really like to see you when you come down. It’s been months…Stay with me when you come down?”

“Julie,” I started then stopped. I wanted to see her, but there was so much left unsaid. “Why would you even want me to stay with you at this point?”

“You’re a very strange woman, you know that? You punish yourself and it’s not enough. I punish us and it’s not enough. We’re not going back, Cameron. Forward. We’ll just keep moving forward. I have an extra room. I know you have work commitments and I won’t interfere with them. I don’t want you to say no immediately. Please, think about it.”

“Okay.” Despite everything in my body telling me not too, I would think about it. “Thank you for this afternoon.”
